Welcome to 2026 and the start of election year. We will discuss and debate the many views and opinions that are promoted by aspiring politicians and the current government and opposition. March is also the time to make submissions to local government draft annual plans including CCC, Selwyn, Waimakariri and Ecan. We have sent our members links to the draft plans so that they can make submissions. This month we debated the merits or otherwise of ratepayers funding the city's 'iconic' buildings e.g. the Christchurch Cathedral. The result was an overwhelming 'no.' This year we will continue to meet on the second Thursday of every month at 10am at the Birdwood Cafe, Birdwood Ave, Beckenham.
