Christchurch Deputy Mayor, and City Councillor for the Heathcote Ward which covers from Waltham to Taylor’s Mistake. She holds the Council’s Climate Change Portfolio and her areas of interest are sustainability, climate change and enabling communities to connect and strengthen for long term wellbeing and resilience, which in many ways, are the key aspects of U3A.
Sara gave an excellent overview of the work that the Christchurch City Council is doing in relation to the environment. This includes creating more and better cycleways. She explained the Council's policy relating to housing density with more people living closer to existing amenities. It is estimated that there will be 32,000 more people living in Christchurch in the near future. She discussed the long term plan and the importance of people having their say in the way the city operates. Communication is key.
